Do Menstrual Cycles Occur While On Birth Control Pills?

I ve been taking The Pill as a form of birth control for about 5 months. However, I ve never gotten my period during the week of placebo pills. It s always been somewhere in the middle of the package. Since I m bleeding when I m taking the pills that are supposed to prevent my period, is it an effective form of birth control right now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, sometimes, in some women who take birth control pill, bleeding can occur. This can be due to hormonal changes, however, we should rule out other more serious issues first. So, better check it out with your gynecologist first.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
