Do Ovarian Cysts Cause Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding?

Hello, I am a 35 year old female and I was wondering if ovarian cysts cause abnormal and prolonged menstrual periods? I had a normal menstrual in April but in May I began bleeding a week before I should have gotten my period and I have been bleeding ever since. In essence, I ve been bleeding for almost two months now. At first it was light bleeding but now it has gotten heavier in the last week. My doctor said it could be normal, but it s been too long for this to be normal to me. This is the first time I experience this. Thanks!

Hi I think you should go for evaluation first. Get a thyroid profile and prolactin level done. It can be due to ovarian cyst also. You can take some medicines like tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. If it is not controlled by that, you may need high dose of progesterone to stop the bleeding. Hope it helps.
