Do Persistent Joint And Muscle Pain Suggest Lupus?

Hi! I m a 51 year old female in great health however I ve been having problems with increasing joint/muscle pain all over my body. My paternal grandmother died from complications of Lupus and my 50 year old sister was recently diagnosed with lupus. I know there isn t a specific test for it, but could my issues be something other than Lupus?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there I have read through your question and I can understand your concern. Joint pains alone are not diagnostic of lupus. A butterfly rash on the face, fever, fatigue and skin sensitivity specially to sun exposure have to be looked for. If you have any of these additional symptoms you must consult your physician. Other causes of joint pain like arthritis should be ruled out. I would advise you to get an ESR, anticcp and RA Factor done to rule out other causes. Also you should get an X Ray of the affected joints. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
