Do Red Marks On Shin After An Injury Indicate Presence Of Blood Clot?
I got kicked in a soccer game at 16 in the shin, I m 47 now. It was a huge bruise with swelling and took months to absorb. I had people tell me they knew people who had surgery for a lesser injury.I still have small red marks on that shin and sometimes it tends to throb. I get a little nervous it could be a blood clot. Ideas? What to do? Thank you in advance for your kindness and knowledge. Kathleen
Hello and welcome to HCM, The red mark on the shin presently may be due to discoloration caused by past injury. However, the red mark in no way suggests a blood clot. Throbbing is seen in conditions where is accumulation of pus. I suggest you to consult a surgeon for clinical assessment and Doppler study to assess the vascular system of legs. In case there is any abnormality of blood vessels of lower limb, it will show up on Doppler study.
Hi dear, Any blood clot might have already absorbed by this time. This is likely post inflammatory pigmentation, and need nothing to be done if you have no pain on walking or tenderness in the area. A hematoma cannot last for this long.
If you are still in doubt, kindly get it examined with your doctor. Take care. Thank you.
