Do Spotting Before Periods And Nausea Suggest An Infection?

Hi! I started spotting 6 days before my period was supposed to start. It has been going on for the last 3 days. I also feel waves of nausea through out the day. I have never spotted before a period. Could this be an infection ? I took home a hpt and tested 4 days before my period and it was a negative.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

The spotting does not indicate pregnancy if it has lasted this long (i.e. 6 days or so). Implantation bleeding occurs for 1-3 days and is very mild. I would however like you to pay emphasis on your age, and if you are around or more than 40 years of age then there could be a chance of this being related to menopause or pre-menopause.

Other options include stress, birth control, other medications, sudden weight gain or weight loss, infections, etc; that can all contribute towards such a presentation. Please speak to your doctor regarding the same.

Best wishes.
