Doctor Changed The Birth Control Pills From Tri-sprintec To Norethindrone Due To High BP. Is This Right?

Hello,
My Doctor has decided to change my birth control pills from Tri-Sprintec to Norethindrone.
I am very worried that this new pill is not going to provide me with adequate protection.
I read that this new pill has a less than 50% chance of stopping Ovulation in women.
I prefer to stay on my Tri- Sprintec but because of a history of high blood pressure she wants me on this new one
and will not give me the prescription of my choice.
I don't know what to do! or how to convince my Doctor that the old Pill is the better choice for me.
What should I do and what can you tell me about this new prescription?

Hello and welcome to HCM,

The drug Tri-springtec is combination of estradiol (estrogen) and progesterone.
Trug is effective in preventing ovulation and hence pregnancy.
However there are many contra-indications for this drug.
Hypertension is one of them.
The estradiol component of this preparation can lead to increase in blood pressure so its use is contraindicated in case of hypertension.
Continuation of the drug can aggravate your hypertension.
Porgesterones (norethindrone) is used in women who have any contraindication for the use of estradiol.
Other contraindication for the use of estradiol are cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, hyperlipidemia, jaundice, etc.
Norethindrone is also effective in preventing ovulation.
Taking the drug in time is essential.

Thank you and take care
