Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was in a car accident after having dinner and a few drinks. I was taken to the hospital. I had been unconscious for at least 10 minutes, and was in and out. I do not even remember the ambulance ride. I found out that the hospital gave me Atavan. I take medication for specific reasons, and was upset to find they had given me this drug. My BAL came up high -- over .09 which is over the limit where I live. It should not have, considering what I ate and drank. Does Ativan increase Blood Alcohol Levels? Thank you!
Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Ativan is Lorazepam and the drug is a benzodiazepine drug. Mixing Lorazepam with alcohol is not advisable because this results in increased risk of intoxication and severe depression of CNS can occur. So Ativan can increase the brain depressant effects of alcohol. But if we consider blood alcohol levels then the drug doesn't increase the levels of alcohol. The drug has not much effects on Alcohol blood levels. You had high alcohol levels so I'd advise you to please avoid driving after drinks.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
