Does Atorvastatin Cause Severe Itching?

I just started taking atorvastatin just one pill last evening for the first time. During the night I started itching so badly. I am also taking augmentin and for the first time last evening also took a hydrocodone for wisdom tooth excrutiating pain. I remember once while I was taking niacin I itched as well - could it be the atorvastatin or the mixture of medicines that I am temporarily taking? Can I use Benadryl to relieve the itching?

Hello,

It is a bit difficult to determine which drug is causing your rash as you are taking three different medications at the same time which you have not taken previously. Atorvastatin is not likely to cause a rash as a side effect. Most likely drug causing your rash is augmentin or hydrocodone both of which causes a rash as a side effect in some individuals. Benadryl will help temporarily but till the time the offending drug is stopped, you will not be relieved. I would advise you to ask your physician to substitute those preparation s with a different one.
