Does Bronchitis Cause Pain In The Ribs While Coughing?

Hello, I have been diagnosed with bronchitis about 7 days ago. Prescribed an antibiotic Zpack for 5 days. My cough is still not gone, it now hurts my left side ribs badly when I cough. I ve been prescribed an advare inhaler type thing but it still feels as if I have a broken rib. Should I go back to doctor or wait it out another few days?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to health care magic
I really appreciate your concern.
Looking at your description you should go back to doctor for further investigation like X ray chest and blood test like ESR, CBC, sputum test to rule out tuberculosis.

Meanwhile I would advise you to follow these guidelines
You can take paracetamol or ibuprofen for chest pain
Steam inhalation which will help by diluting secretions and ultimately coughing it out.
Honey mixed with ginger juice will help by soothing your throat.
Cough expectorant is advisable
Hope this answers your question
Best wishes
