Does Cephalexin Help To Treat Swollen Foot Along With Rash On It?

Hi I m a 61 year old Australian) woman traveling in Germany. I frequently have one swollen foot after a flight that generally goes away after a few days. However, this time the foot is still swollen and tight, a bit red and slight rash on it (it has been unseasonably hot here). I carry cefalexin when I travel (had malignant melanoma and worry about lymphodema infection after a block dissection). If I took the cefalexin, would it help my foot and rash? Sincerely Yvonne Smith

Hi,

You should get it reviewed by a surgeon and may need to have ultrasound Doppler of veins of the leg to rule out deep venous thrombosis. The other likely cause can be cellulitis which may need long term antibiotics with gram positive coverage. Anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen may help meanwhile symptomatically.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
