Does Clindamycin Intake For Gum Infection Cause Diarrhea?

I have been prescribed Clindamaycin for a gum infection. I'm concerned about the warning that it may cause 'severe diarrhea' as the insert states. Do you know how common that occurs? It is a very scarey warning. I'm nervous to start this! Do you know how soon it might start?? Thanks!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it is true that antibiotics like Clindamycin can cause diarrhoea as it can damage good bacteria of the intestine along with the harmful bacteria present in mouth and can disturb the complex functioning of intestine and can like digestion and absorption..
But it will cause severe diarrhoea in all individuals is not correct and you need not to worry about it..
You can very well start taking clindamycin and to prevent diarrhoea always take it after eating and not empty stomach..
You can take a proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole empty stomach in morning and once before dinner to prevent stomach upset..
Take more of probiotics like Yoghurt..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
