Is clopidogrel associated with weight gain? Age 65. I have PAD, total blockage, of right carotid artery due to long-ago (27 years) radiation treatments (adenocystic carcinoma of the parotid) following parotidectomy and dissection of the facial nerve. Only recently confirmed, artery has probably been blocked for decades. Moderately high cholesterol (240 to 250). Six months ago doctor put me on Crestor and Clopidogrel. At that time my BMI 24.9. Weight gain began immediately and spiraled out of control. In spite of calorie-restricted diet and extreme exercise, BMI went to over 30. I quit both drugs. My calculation is that taking the drugs will reduce my risk of heart disease in the long term. If I could cut my cholesterol by a third, my risk would be reduced by two-thirds. But contra, the risk of a heart attack in the short run is four times as high for people who are obese (BMI over 30) compared to normal weight people (BMI under 25). My question is this. I am absolutely not going to follow my doctor s recommendation to take statins, even at a lower dosage. But I am open to taking the platelet antiaggregant if it is not associated with weight gain in the same was as the statins clearly are. Is clopidogrel associated with weight gain?
