Does Co Quetiapine Cause Increased Appetite And Weight Gain?

my doctor has me on 5o mg of co-quetiapine to stabilize my mood due to a sudden incident that caused depression episode. I started off on 25mg for a week didn t see any impact. The instructions say I can take two so I increased the medication to 50 mg about 2 1/2 ago. Except for some extra eating at holiday, I gained 10 pounds in two weeks. Is this normal? I can t stop eating either.

Hi, I understand your concerns after reading your question.

Co Quetiapin is an atypical antipsychotic medication that can be used to treat schizophrenia and certain types of mood disorders.
Like other antipsychotic medications, side effects are common. Increased appetite and consequent weight gain are well known side effects of CoQuetiapin. Other side effects can include sleepiness, increased blood lipids, increased blood pressure which may be related to weight gain.

If you experience disturbing side effects, you should talk with your doctor who who may either modify the dose or change the medication.

I hope this helped you. I will be available in case you have further concerns.

Wish you good health.
