Does Donepezil HCL Aggravate The Symptoms Of Dementia?

My husband was placed on donepezil HCL 10 mg at night for mild dementia related to his massive stroke. It was suggested by the neuropsych to the PCP. We have not seen any difference in terms of clearing up his confusion and memory. However, his behavior, especially fear, seems to have escalated. Is it possible that this med could increase the symptoms of dementia such as behavior/fear/etc?

Stop using donepezil and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

black, bloody, or tarry stools;
coughing up blood or vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds;
painful or difficult urination;
seizure (black-out or convulsions);
Less serious side effects may include:

nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
loss of appetite;
muscle cramps;
tired feeling; or
sleep problems (insomnia).
