Does Doxycycline Medicine For Shingles Cause Side Effects?
I got diagnosed with shingles on Wednesday and have been pretty miserable. I also have an infection going on BLadder and I am taking doxeclyclone for that and I think I may be allergic to it because I can t keep anything down. I have thrown up about 8 times since yesterday and have the chills and a tremendous headache. These could all be signs of shingles as well? Super weak and tired, do you think I am allergic to the antibiotic?
Suggestive of docycycline induced diarrhea. Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is not used to treat shingles which is caused by reactivation of chickenpox virus. Based on the history you seem to be suffering from loose motions apparently caused by the antibiotic doxycycline. Consult your treating doctor for possible dose reduction of doxycycline or an effective alternate, use of probiotic to control the frequency of loose motions, and oral rehydration solution to correct the dehydration.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
