Does Duphaston Induce Regular Periods And Assist In Pregnancy?

Hello Doctor, I am 27 years old, married since 2 years and recently I consulted a Gynecologist for regularizing my periods as I am planning for pregnancy in mid of 2016. My period cycle is usually 40-45 days. She tested my thyroid and hemoglobin level and both were normal and prescribed me Duphaston – 10mg tablet (0-0-1) for 5 days, and I have to take this tablet on the 25th day of my period every month. She has also prescribed Pyricontin-F (0-1-0) daily for 6 months period. I got my periods on Dec 1st, 2015 and I took duphaston tablet for 5 days (i.e. Dec 25th to 29th Dec, 2015) as instructed by my doctor. I got my periods on Jan 5th, 2016 and bleeding was very less and lasted for 3-4 days only. I usually have proper bleeding for 5 days before I started to take the tablets. Note that it has been only one month since I started taking the tablet. I want to know the reason for this? Should I continue with the tablets? Will I have problem in conceiving in future? Please Advice.

I have read your description and understand your concern.
Duphaston contain the active ingredient dydrogesterone, which is a synthetic hormone similar to the naturally occurring progesterone.
It is a hormonal preparation commonly used used to treat several conditions that are due to lack of progesterone like secondary amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea or painful periods, premenstrual syndrome and abnormal uterine bleeding, and is also used to induce conception.
Kindly take the medication as advised by your doctor.
