Does Folic Acid Intake Improve The Chances Of Getting Pregnant?

Hello I am diagnosed with PCOS two months ago. I consulted GP and she put me on metformin 500 mg twice a day. I have been trying to conceive for a while now and sinceI am not ovulating so had no luck in getting pregnant so far. I am just wondering can I take some more fertility drug or folic acid to boost my fertility? Or should I wait to get an appointment from gynaecologist or let motformin work and regulate my periods? Please help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Folic acid is a pregnancy superhero. Taking a prenatal vitamin with the recommended dose of folic acid before and during pregnancy can help prevent birth defects of your baby's brain and spinal cord.

Take it every day and go ahead. It hardly has any impact on your chances to get pregnant. Follow your gynecologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh,
