Does Hydralazine Cause Swelling In The Legs And Feet?

I have just been switched from Nefedipine to Hydralazine due to extreme swelling from the Nefedipine. I have NASH and low kidney function and am concerned about the side effects I see listed for the Hydralazine. One of them is swelling in legs and feet, etc. - as I am already having serious issues with that, is this a good switch for me?

Hi,

Swelling is a common side effect of Nifedipine. I don't know if you have tried taking Lercanidipine, once daily, it also has swelling on ankles as a side effect but this doesn't occur in every patient, and it's nothing to worry about, you can switch to another medicine if this happens.

Considering the fact that you have a low renal function, I think Hydralazine is a good choice, but not the best choice, for hypertension treatment. You should also consider using a betablocker (Metoprolol) and diuretic (hydroclorthiazide) treatment.

In fact, I kindly need more details about other antihypertensive drugs that you are taking, and if you have other diseases, it would help me to decide another drug instead of Hydralazine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
