Does Hydrocodone Withdrawal Have Any Side Effects?

Hi - my mother was taking Hydrocodon for the past year to relieve pain following several back surgeries. Her last visit to the hospital, the doctors determined this medication should not be taken long-term. Is there a withdrawal period when she stops taking this medication?

As a physician, I would like to tell you that your mother's treating physician was absolutely right in tapering off the medication like Hydrocodone as it might have long term side effects if it is taken continuously for longer duration of period because it is an Opoid pain medication.

I would also like to tell you that you mother will not experience any side effects related to withdrawal as long as the medicine is tapered off gradually and under a physician's guidance. If she experiences any side effect, consult with her treating physician as soon as possible.
