Does IUD Cause Recurrent Thrush?

Hi I am having reoccurring thrush which I think is down to either the copper coil or my citalopram medication. What I want to know is if it s possible it could be the citalopram? I know the coil can do this. I ve booked for swobs and to talk to a doctor but can t get seen for ages. Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Intrauterine devices (IUD) s can cause fungal infection. Citalopram doesn’t leads to thrush. Get a vaginal swab for confirmation. Apply clotrimazole vaginal wash for symptomatic relief. If the infection persist, you have to remove the coil and to reinsert once the infection settles. Wishing you good health.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
