Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My liver enzyme levels are elevated - not horrible, but above recommended ranges. I have used a protein shake meal replacement pretty regularly for the last year and a half. Haven t lost weight with it, but it s convenient and doesn t taste bad and is good for me (or so I thought). The product is Isagenix. I am a 53 year old female. Do you know anything about Isagenix products contributing to poor liver function?
If the liver enzymes are borderline raised, I suggest doing an ultrasound liver to look for fatty infiltration of liver or fatty liver disease. Viral serologies for hepatitis B and C may also be needed. Hydration should be kept good with less spices or junk food and liver function should be measured again after three months to see for any decreasing or increasing trend
It may be temporarily increased by the shakes and supplements you took, so those should be immediately stopped as safety data regarding liver and kidney functions for such supplements is mostly unknown and neither are FDA approved products so should not be used without a doctor's recommendations.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
