Does Lexapro Cause Poor Memory?

My 17 year old daughter has been taking Lexapro for anxiety / depression over the last two years. She is currently very well and has been stable for most of this time but has been advised to continue until the end of year 12. I want to know if this drug can interfere with her ability to learn as I believe it can affect memory and indeed it did affect her memory when she first took it. I ask this because she is taking year 12 exams and I need to know if there is a case for special consideration with the marks. Thanks

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related doubts

Lexapro is Escitalopram and the drug is a SSRI drug. The drug is one of commonly used antidepressant drugs. In depression a lot of individuals suffer concentration issues, issues related to focus, poor memory all of which fall under pseudo dementia. Lexapro in-fact helps to improve these symptoms.

So the drug doesn't cause any cognitive issues and doesn't cause memory impairment. The drug is safe to use, and you can continue to give her the drug as per prescription without any worries.

Thanks, Take care
