Does Mupirocin Help In Preventing Shingles Scar?

my 91 year old mother has shingles on her stomach and back for 9 days now. I used the mupirocin ointment for 5 days and has kept covered. The blisters were huge and became one very big one in some spots. Some of the blisters have broken. I put the mupirocin ointment on the broken ones only. should I continue do that or will that prevent them from getting a scab.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Mupirocin is an antibiotic cream for bacterial infections. It may not be helpful in shingles. I suggest you apply an anti viral cream over the area after getting reviewed by the dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
