Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had TKR three weeks ago. Only meds I m taking is Naproxen Sodium (440 mg 2x daily). Is it safe to add acetaminophen to this. Not taken at the same time .... Example 1pm Naproxen, 4pm Acetaminophen, 7pm Naproxen, 4am Acetaminophen, etc. I have taken NO pain meds throughout, but my muscles are so tight this weekend they re causing me major discomfort. (59 y old woman). Thank you.
Naproxen sodium is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), usually used to relieve pain and inflammation. It can be used alone or along with Acetaminophen if needed. It does not have any interaction with acetaminophen. If both are taken together or after a gap of few hours, may help in giving additional relief. However, if you have muscle stiffness, taking a muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxazone along with it may be beneficial.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Prabhakar Laxman Jathar
