Does PCOS Affect Fertility?

I am a 23 years old girl, and I was just diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. I am currently on nexplanon for birth control, and I live a pretty active and healthy lifestyle. My gynecologist said that my cysts , although many, are very very small and that I do not need to worry but after reading about this syndrome online I am extremely worried about it affecting my fertility.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is known to cause temporary infertility or difficulty in conceiving in women. This condition would cause irregular menstruation and/or untimely ovulation, which could cause delay in conceiving. However, it is a treatable condition and fertility is regained in most cases with proper treatment.
In your case, it is premature to comment about having this condition as you are currently on birth control implant. You need to get evaluated after this implant gets expired and you would plan to conceive.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
