Does Parkinson S Disease Lead To Involuntary Movements In Hands And Legs?

Initially around 4 year back I noticed that my left hand is not swinging while walking, my hands and legs started shaking in particular position. Shown to several neuro physician, some concluded that it is essential tremors and some told me that it may be on set of Parkinson. All my tests, brain and spine MRI, Thyroid, eye kf ring, etc were found normal. After taking many medicine on trial basis, which included syndopa, primidone and many other anti anxiety drugs,FOR last 3 months I have been put on CIPLAR 40 (1 tab in morning),Pacitane( 1 each in morning, afternoon and evening) and parkintidin(1 each in morning and afternoon).Though not fully recovered,I am feeling 20-25 % relief.I don’t have rigidity and tremors increases while walking. Rest tremors in hand are visible only some times. Motoring skills of Left hand and legs are effected, for ex. I cannot smoothly type with left fingers, they don’t have much control .I cannot rotate left wrist as freely as right wrist, etc,My Qs is how long I have to take the medicine and what are its side effects. Can I reduce the dose amount? The medicine prescribed are for essential tremors or Parkinson?Pl advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that can cause a wide range of motor symptoms, including tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia (slowness of movement). Involuntary movements, known as dyskinesias, can also occur in Parkinson's disease, particularly with long-term use of levodopa (a medication commonly used to treat Parkinson's). These dyskinesias can involve abnormal movements of the hands, legs, or other parts of the body.

It is important to note that essential tremor and Parkinson's disease can have similar symptoms, which can make it difficult to differentiate between the two conditions. Essential tremor is a benign condition that is characterized by tremors that occur with voluntary movement, whereas in Parkinson's disease, tremors typically occur at rest.

The medication regimen you have been prescribed, including Pacitane and ParkinTidin, suggests that your doctors are treating you for Parkinson's disease. Ciplar 40 is a beta blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions and is not typically used to treat Parkinson's disease.

It is important to follow your doctor's advice regarding medication dosage and duration of treatment. Reducing the dose or stopping the medication without consulting with your doctor can lead to a worsening of symptoms. All medications have potential side effects, and it is important to discuss any concerns you have with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
