Does Seroquel Cause Sleep Paralysis?

My son was prescribed Seroquel a few days ago. He is a high achieving student at Ohio State, a senior and is 22 years old. He has always been a great student and known to all as a very happy even keel guy. He has been complaining the last year or more about insomnia and anxiety. When he does sleep, he has told me that when he sleeps, he wakes up frequently and when he wakes up he says he sometimes can t move all or part of his body for a short piriod of time and during that time he will see either a little girl or a scary little figure. Those things stop pretty quickly and he can move again and the images (that might be dreams) will go away. What is Seroquel and what could be wrong with him? BTW... the doctor said she prescribed him the lowest possible dose.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Seroquel is an anti-psychotic medication but it also has a number of other uses.

It would have been prescribed to help with the sensation that he is not able to move and the hallucinations that he has been experiencing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
