Does Tanidine Cause Elevated ALT Levels?

I had been taking TANIDINE 2 mg twice a day as a new prescription. I also have high cholesterol, and as a result my blood is tested every three months. The first blood test after stating this medicine my AST and ALT results came back in the 140 range from norms in the 33 range... Is it a known adverse liver test results with this medicine??

Hello,

I think the correct medication you are taking is Tizanidine 2 mg. It is used to treat muscle spasms. One of its side effects is injuring the liver, which is already affected (high AST and ALT).

You are also reporting to be using medications to lower high cholesterol (most probably statins). They also have been shown to injure the liver.

So, to me, in your case, both medications are causing injured liver with high AST and ALT. Should run hepatitis tests to rule out hepatitis.
If negative, should discuss with your caring doctor to stop taking these meds until the liver is stabilized. Or can change therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
