Does Telmisartan Have Any Adverse Side Effects In The Long Run?

I am 31 with a blood pressure 143 / 80 and after visiting my doctor recently, he gave me medication to lower my pressure. From what i understand pressure regulating pills have to ne taken for the rest of my life. Does telmisartan (micardi 40 mg) has any long term conciquences to my body? (Kindeys, lover e.t.c)

Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern.
Starting Blood pressure pills (antihypertensive) on a single reading 143/80 is against guidelines. There should be at least three or four readings
at least 3-4 weeks apart to confirm diagnosis or history of stroke, diabetes or heart attack.
Secondarily as you are young you should be investigated for secondary causes like kidneys, phechromicytoma etc.
Any how now you are taking this; it is very effective drug in young but not black. It belongs to Angiotensin receptor blockers.
Every drug has its side effects. It can cause allergic reaction like angioedema, urticaria, stomach problem, Rhabdomyolysis, Dizziness, hyperkalemia.
But these side effects are seen very rarely. If you face these problems then contact your healthcare provider.
Don't take medications like digoxin, furosemide, spironolactone and ACE inhibitors while using telmisartan as risk of hyperkalemia increases.
In case of dizziness avoid driving until you feel comfortable. change your posture.
It doesn't cause Renal problems by itself rather it aggravates if already exists. It doesn't cause liver problems.
Hope it helps best.
