Does Thyronorm Cause Complications When Taken By A Toddler?

Hello Doctor,

My friends niece (less than 2 years old) chewed a tablet of thyronorm. Shes now in hospital, stomach was flushed, ECG taken and under observation in pediatric ICU.
I hope there is no reason to worry; just wanted an assurance from an expert.

Thanks and Regards,
Soumya

Dear Soumya, Hi & Welcome.
What is the dosage of each tablet?
I appreciate your concern for your friend's niece.

There's nothing to worry about.

Accidental intake of one or two Thyronorm tablets will not cause any complication as such.

Usually signs and symptoms related to heart like fast heart rate, palpitation, brain symptoms like irritability and hyper alert state may occur with the accidental consumption of Thyronorm in most of the healthy individuals including children.

Usually they don't need hospitalization but if any of these symptoms occur, a visit to ER is recommended for proper management and observation in the hospital.

Since stomach lavage (flush) has been done and she is being monitored in ICU so, there's nothing to worry about her. She will be alright in due course of time.

Best regards.
