Does Trimovate Cream Have A Generic Equivalent?

I have a condition called ballinitus which I have controlled for the past 12 years with trimovate cream. This was prescribed by a consultant I saw and I only used a tiny amount each year, and got a new tube when it went out of date . My current GP has prescribed 1% hydrocortisone cream instead but this does not seem to be as effective

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Trimovate contains clobetasone butyrate (corticosteroid); oxytetracycline (antibacterial agent); and nystatin (antifungal agent) whereas hydrocortisone contains only corticosteroid. Ballinitus is a infection and it can be bacterial or fungal so you will be needing agents to fight against them. Corticosteroid helps in stopping the infection to grow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
