Does Tylenol Cause Impaired Thoughts And Slurred Speech?

Hi! My mother is 91 years old and takes Tylenol PM in the evening because she says she can t sleep without it. I have read that this particular medication can cause confusion in older adults which seems to be the case lately. Also, her speech has been slurred and is getting worse. Can this be because of the medication? Is there some other medication that can be given such as Melatonin (natural) and would she have to be weaned off of the Tylenol PM before stopping it?

Hi,
Thanks for your question. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. Please find my advice below-:
1)First i will tell that no need of Tylenol without any reason for long time so stop it.
2)Do a clinical exam neuro to see if any deficit present if found do a MRI
Her speech has no relation with medication, there are many reasons responsible for it which will be ruled out by MRI only.

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.
Wishing you all the best.
Thanks,
I find this answer helpful
