Does Valium Help To Control Seizure?

Hello my name is Nanette. I m 65. For the pass 6years I have had a seizure once a month like clock work, its like a period every 32 days. I know when its coming so I know not to drive. I have had all the test done and they came back clean. They put me on Dilantin but I about lost my mine. I m not taking it anymore. So I was wondering if Valium would be better.

Hi,

Valium (Diazepam) is usually not preferred as a first line agent for long term treatment of seizures. It is used either for temporary relief during an acute attack, or as an add on when 2-3 drugs are not sufficient for control. Kindly discuss with your doctor before making any changes. There are other better alternatives like Leveterasetam or Valproate.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
