Does A CT Angiogram Cause High Radiation?

I have undergone several stress tests and echocardiograms plus a cardiolite stress test in the past couple of months with nothing to eventful showing up. During my last stress test performed by my cardiologist I mentioned that sometimes when I do the treadmill test I get a mild discomfort in my upper back. Based on this my cardiologist wants me to have CT angiogram done. I am very very nervous about this test due to the high radiation. Is this necessary and is there anything else?

welcome to Health care magic.
1.Yes there is test called vascular doppler study which is with out radiation procedure.
2.This test can assess both limbs, abdomen, neck vessels. But it is operator dependent - so all doctors do not accept this - you can try to request your doctor.
3.No doubt there is radiation in CT angio - but give definitive result.
4.Dont worry - once in a while having CT is not life threatening.
5.Other non radiation best investigation is MR angio - but little expensive.
Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
