Does A CT Scan Show The Throat Mechanism In Motion?

My son when he swallows, has a rubbing on the right side of his throat. Also when swallowing, as the thyroid cartilage comes up the throat looks like it s moving to the side and making a clicking, popping of thumping sound. It feels also like a pulling sensation. He had a Upper GI and a modified barrium swallow test. Which showed normally swallow and didn t reveal any results as to what this could be. It happens every time he swallows. It doesn t cause pain but is uncomfortable and he his swallowing feels awkward. He has seen 2 ENT s. They observed inside his throat with the scope that goes through the nose. They didn t see any internal reason for this. You can see it looking at his throat cartilage area from the outside view of his throat at he swallows and the cartilage moves to the top of this throat. It seems to pop slightly to the right side. Any suggestions or ideas what this could be or rubbing on? Can this process wear out the muscles and ligaments of the right side of his throat. He is concerned. Does a CT scan show the throat mechanism in motion? I really want to refrain from more x-rays, as hes had 2 swallow tests already and has had x-rays of his teeth a few times at the dentist. To my understanding an MRI only would show the soft tissues of the throat and not the cartilage. Is that true. If the thyroid cartilage was rubbing on muscles or something. Maybe there wouldn t be anything that could be done. What do you thinK?

Hi..
Welcome to HCM ..
there is something called functional MRI for all your doubt's...where the functions can be clearly delineated...CT does not have such options ..and ah we do see cartilages in MRI...soft tissues are better delineated in MRI that's it....wish your son a speedy recovery...
