Does A Blister Filled With Clear Fluid Indicate Cancerous Cyst?

My mother has a blister on the articulation of her middle toe, I have sliced it open a couple of times and a sticky clear liquid oozes out, it will not go away, keeps coming back, a doctor said he could see a vessel attached to it, can it be a cancerous cyst?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since there is sticky fluid coming out this is most probably a cyst from tendons or joint capsules as these are the only structures that give sticky substances on lancing or after rupture. Consult a general surgeon for clinical evaluation and any investigations if asked for. If this related to the tendons or joints then an opinion of an orthopedic surgeon is needed for further medications and surgery if needed to avoid the recurrence. Till then apply liquid povidone iodine locally to avoid secondary infection.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
