Does A Direct Impact On Knee Require X-ray Analysis?

Hello, my right knee took a direct impact into the boards while playing ice hockey one week ago. Was able to finish the game but knee became swollen with a bad bruise to follow. I'm able to weightbear and no ligament issues. Problem a week later is I can feel a ridge along the centre of my patella where the impact occurred. Does this deserve an x-ray or is the bursa still healing? Thanks in advance.
