Does A Finger Injury By An Old Razor Need Medical Attention?

Hi I just cut my finger on an old dirty razor blade cleaning out a bin at work , the cut was pretty deep with a lot of blood , the wound was cleaned and dressed by a first aider, I am aware of the high risk of infection due to the object in which I cut myself on , but should I go to the hospital straight away or am I putting myself at risk if I wait until the morning and go to a walk in clinic?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of finger injury, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream on it.
3. Take a NSAID like Ibuprofen.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like Levofloxacin, Cefadroxil and Azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
