Does A High Epithelial Cell Count Denote A Pregnancy?

i'm 20 years old, female, married. I recently had unprotected sex with my husband about 12 days ago and after that i'm having some symptoms like heavy pressure to urinate after waking up and some pain in the pelvic area. I did a urine test which says my epithelial cell count is slightly high than the usual. My question is: does epithelial cell count increase means i'm pregnant? If not, when can I be sure that I'm pregnant or not and what will be the best time to do a test?

Hallow Dear,

Let me sort out your query one by one.

Epithelial cells in urine is not a sign of pregnancy. If you want to confirm your pregnancy status, you must first be sure that you have missed your period. If you have, about a week after that you can perform pregnancy test on the first morning urine sample. Done earlier, these tests may give false negative reports. Alternatively you may opt for Beta hCG test which is highly sensitive and gives reliable results even few days before missing a period.

Now the more serious aspect about the presence of epithelial cells in your urine. In addition, you are having pain in the pelvic area and heavy pressure while passing urine. This all is suggestive of urinary infection at the higher level. Presence of epithelial cells in the urine suggest the infection in the kidney. So please report to a urologist. You will be asked for culture and sensitivity test of the urine to identify the infective bacteria and the antibiotics to which they are sensitive. Accordingly, you will be put on appropriate antibiotics course.

Please drink plenty of water, Barley water is still better. Tab. Pyridacil will take care symptomatically of your pain during urination.

I hope this helps and guides you.
