I mentioned to my doctor that right under my jawline I felt something and I wasn't sure whether it was swollen lymph nodes or not. I explained that it had been therecfor over six months and was tender. She did a basic exam and went on to discuss something else. Should I ask for an ultrasound of that area?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your question swelling under the jaw line can be due to 2 common reasons: 1.Swollen lymph nodes. 2.Swollen submandibular Salivary Gland..
In case if it is due to swollen lymph nodes and is present persistently since 6 months a FNAC has to be done to rule out whether it is due to infection (Reactionary Lymphadenopathy) or a malignancy (Lymphoma).
If it is swollen Salivary Gland there can either be infection or by obstruction in the duct of the gland by Salivary stones or foreign body and it also needs to be investigated by ultrasound..
Treatment can be planned after confirmation of cause..
Hope this information helps..
