Does A Negative HPV Test Mean That My Body Is Totally Free From The Virus?
Dear Doctor, I just went for a LEEP procedure to remove the abnormal, CIN Grade 2 cells from my cervix that is caused by HPV type 16. I am now very concerned that my anal canal might be infected with that HPV virus because I have had anal intercourse with my last boyfriend, who would very highly like also carry the HPV Type 16 virus due to vaginal intercourse with me. But we have only had anal intercourse for about 3-4 times.. is that enough to cause anal dysplasia like what happened to my cervix? My HPV virus hadn t cleared after so those few years, I am now extremely worried that the HPV virus in other parts of my body would not clear up as well.. What do I do doctor? Also, if a HPV test is negative, does that mean my body is totally free from the virus? that it has been totally eliminated? or just that it is in such dormant state it cannot be detected? Looking forward to your reply! Thanks heaps! xx
No. There are many strains of HPV and you never know which is left out. Usually anal canal is not infected. You must look for warts in the area; in addition to the PAP smear at regular intervals. I need the cytopathology report of the previous LEEP.
