Does A Posterior Pituitary Tumor Cause Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

Mr. Grimaldi was previously diagnosed as having a posterior pituitary tumor that causes hypersecretion of ADH. He comes to the clinic regularly to have his blood pressure checked. Would you expect his blood pressure to be chronically elevated or depressed? Why?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

ADH is a hormone made by the hypothalamus in the brain and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. It acts on the kidneys and tells how much water to conserve. ADH constantly regulates and balances the amount of water in your blood. Higher water concentration can increase the volume and pressure of the blood. Hence, it is necessary to monitor blood pressure frequently to ascertain it is maintained in normal range.

Hope the information provided helps.

All the best.

Regards.
