Does A Smelly, Small Infected Area In The Armpit Warrant Medical Attention?

I have a small hole in the fold of my armpit. Smells very bad and it's quite embarrassing. Smell due to white puss I do believe. Happened once before many years ago and it healed on its own. I assume this one should do the same with regular hygiene? Don't want to go to the doctor if not absolutely needed.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that a small hole in the armpit that is smelly and contains pus can be an infected hair follicle while can also be due to infected gland in the area..
It can also be an abscess caused due to infection over the skin leading to ormation of pus under the skin..
I would suggest you to clean the area with antiseptic solution and apply antibiotic ointment over it..
You can also put gentle pressure and drain off pus..
Do it twice a day..
In case if it still does not improve consult a General Physician/surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..
You can be advised oral antibiotics..
You can also be advised incision and drainage of the lesion for faster healing..
