Does A Sprain Cause Pain And Numbness In Leg?

Hi, so last night I was at my friends house and missed two steps going down the stairs. I don t remember feeling anything but pain, ugh. It hurt like hell. I couldn t even walk on it so my friends picked me up and walked me over to the couch and gave me ice. I sat there for 2hrs and iced it. The whole night I wasn t able to walk anywhere bc it hurt so bad. Also my 4 toes were very tingling the whole night. So today I woke up and it still was hurting. I tried to lift up my toes but it hurt so bad. Again I m not able to walk today. Right now it s 7pm and it still hurts and my toes are tingling and numb. I ve iced 4 times already and it still hurts. What is wrong with it, like broken or sprained? My dad thinks it s just sprained but I can t even walk on it or move my toes so idk. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I would advise X-ray of the foot to exclude / confirm a fracture. (Even a hairline fracture can give you such a bad pain). The tingling & numbness of fingers is due to compression of peripheral nerves by edema of the soft tissue. It would subside after the swelling goes. So you should consult a orthopedic surgeon to treat in time or exclude fracture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
