Does A Swollen And Bruised Shin Need A Visit To The ER?

I got hit with a softball line drive on my shin , it immediately swelled up and bruised up. But it will not stop hurting. When I have it up it is throbbing pain. But when I lower down the pain is unbearable and my foot tingles kind of num . My mom think I fractured it and wants to take me to the ER, what should I do?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It would be best to go to the ER to have an x ray done. This would rule out fracture as the cause of your symptoms.

Muscle and other soft tissue injury can cause pain that can persist for a few weeks as well but these should only be considered after a fracture is ruled out since this may need surgical intervention.

If it is related to muscle and soft tissue only then the main treatment is rest and anti inflammatory pain medication such as naproxen, ibuprofen and cataflam

I hope this helps
