Does Adies Pupil Need Immediate Medical Attention?

Hello, I was diagnosed with Adies Pupil 2 years ago. Since then the pupil has not changed, but, in the last few weeks I have noticed tenderness around the eye and frequent headaches that get worse as the day goes on. I also have double vision that is worse when I am tired, things more than 2 feet away have a halo. The Doctor that diagnosed the Adies Pupil cannot get me in until September. Is this urgent enough that I should find another Doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Though Adies pupil is not a life threatening condition, its due care is mandatory to prevent further damage to the vision. The reason in many cases is unknown as idiopathic and in some cases, bacterial or viral infection damaging certain nerves may be culprit. Symptoms include gradual lowering of near focusing capacity of the concerned eye and later on complication may include depigmentation of iris. Best therapy is to improve near focus vision with bifocal lens as usual patients are between 20 - 40 years of age, medications as pilocarpine and others may be required to reduce the size of pupil in selected cases. I would recommend to go for its treatment by september , till that time do take care of near vision problems by yourself.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
