General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, air travel does affect the menstrual cycle. It is normal for the menstrual cycle to change slightly after travelling. Fluctuating levels of cortisol and melatonin coupled with jet lag, fatigue and long flying hours cause the periods to come early, late, or not at all. It also appears to be due to disturbed awake-sleep cycle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
