Does Alcohol Consumption While Trying To Conceive Affect The Fetus?

Hi Dr.

I am a 30 Year old male and I drink occasionally. Right now my wife is pregnant and I remember I had a bottle of beer 1 day before (approximately 18 - 20 hours before) we had intercourse and I am afraid it's then that she conceived. My wife doesn't drink alcohol at all, and as I said, I drink very occasionally, tat too, only beer. My question is: Is there anything to worry as I had beer a day before my wife conceived? If so, what are the risk factors and how best can we do anything about it now?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi i do care for your concern.
The alcohol consumption by mother during conception will cause adverse effect to the foetus.
There is no study evidence to show alcohol effect on males to be transmitted to foetus.
hence need not worry about it as no risk factors have been yet described and everything goes on well.
Hope i have answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask.
Thank you.
