Does Alcohol Content In Body Affect Blood Sugar Levels?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I drank 4 pints of beer and ate fish and chips 11 hours before I had a glucose tolerance test. My fasting blood sugar was 6.8 and then after taking the glucose mixture and waiting 2 hours my blood sugar was 12.1. Is it possible that the alcohol I had the night before could have affected my results.

Hello,
You are thinking absolutely right. Alcohol can affect the blood sugar level, so you must stop alcohol at least 3 days before undergoing glucose tolerance test. You must do at least 12 hours fasting before testing fasting blood sugar.
So do not consider these results and repeat the GTT after having all precautions required.
Hope this will help you.
