Does Alcohol Withdrawal Cause Impaired Body Balance?

My son is age 32; and has a long history with overuse of alcohol. He has stopped drinking and has been sober for the last 2 months. However, he is experiencing loss of balance issues. He will be walking along and simple lose his balance and begin walking with a wide gait. Any ideas where to start looking for help?
